Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party officials say he was arrested when a court in Islamabad’s capital appeared in several corruption cases, Pakistan Tehreek -e -Insaf (PTI).
A senior party official, Fawad Chaudhry, said Khan was arrested on Tuesday by agents of the National Accountability Bureau of the country’s Anti-Corruption Bureau from the court.
Khan was ousted in a non -confidence vote in April last year. He claimed that his removal was illegal and a Western conspiracy and had launched a campaign against the government of his successor, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, demanding early elections.
Chaudhry said Khan was dragged out of court and was thrown into a police car. He said the former Prime Minister is now in the custody of the security forces. He condemned the arrest as kidnapped. Pakistan’s independent Geo TV broadcast pictures of Khan. Security forces have drawn an armored vehicle.
